I Don’t Want to People Today

I don’t want to people today
I don’t want to come out and play

I don’t want to travel outside
I don’t want to confront the tide

I don’t want to see your outfit
I don’t want to know your secret

I don’t want to fake a nice smile
I don’t want to hang out awhile

I don’t want to give you applause
I don’t want to obey your laws

I don’t want to get too upset
I don’t want to need to forget

I don’t want to give you a ride
I don’t want to protect your pride

I don’t want to stand in your line
I don’t want to toast with red wine

I don’t want to sample your food
I don’t want to fix your bad mood

I don’t want to hear while you hum
I don’t want to know why you’re glum

Today’s too much, I cannot play
Please don’t make me people today

I live with high-functioning bipolar, and this is how I feel on the hard days. I’m an introvert by nature, but mental illness makes me want to hide from the world even more.

If someone you know if fighting bipolar, be kind. Give them space and encouragement when they need it. I thank you on their behalf.

Until next time, keep fighting.
